Shift at Midnight is a horror-detective game set at a remote rural gas station in the 1990s. You play as the gas station's night-shift attendant. Be careful; not everyone who visits is human. Mysterious creatures have infiltrated the premises, masquerading as ordinary customers and waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
GAMEPLAY
Unmask the Impostors
Shift at Midnight’s gameplay centres on observation and deduction. Every customer who enters the store has a unique appearance, set of documents, and behavioural traits. Based on these details, you must determine whether they are genuine humans or disguised creatures.
- Ask up to five questions to gather information from each customer.
- Verify identification documents and cross-reference them with computer records.
- Observe gestures, eye contact, and speech patterns to spot anomalies.
- Make a final decision before allowing the customer to proceed into the store.
- Coordinate with teammates in co-op mode to improve your chances of spotting disguised creatures.
Survival
If you mistakenly allow a creature past the security checkpoint, a tense fight for survival begins. You must quickly lock doors, activate traps, and find a hiding spot. Shift at Midnight avoids relying on cheap jump scares, focusing instead on building a sustained sense of dread. Players must constantly question every customer, weigh every choice, and face the consequences of incorrect judgements. A single wrong decision can turn your shift into a disaster.
