GENERAL INTRODUCTION
OMORI is a psychological horror adventure role-playing game developed by the independent studio Omocat and officially released on December 25, 2020. The story unfolds in the dream world of a boy named Sunny, who has confined himself to his room for four years after the death of his best friend, Mari. As he embarks on his journey to explore this dream, Sunny must confront painful memories and dark secrets buried in his past.
Plot
OMORI deeply portrays themes such as depression, psychological trauma, guilt, and the search for forgiveness. Players will take on the role of Sunny, a "hikikomori" boy, a Japanese term referring to individuals who isolate themselves from society and refuse contact with the outside world, a fairly common phenomenon in modern society. In the fantasy world of Omori, Sunny must wander through surreal landscapes while simultaneously confronting harsh reality. Every step presents a challenge, compelling him to surmount his deepest fears and uncover terrifying secrets long hidden.
Character system
- Omori and Sunny: Omori is Sunny's imaginary counterpart in the fantasy world, while Sunny is the main character in real life. Players control Omori when in WHITE SPACE and Sunny when in FARAWAY.
- Kel: One of Omori's three companions. As the group leader, he can use a knife to cut through obstacles, clearing a path for the group.
- Aubrey: An important member of Omori's group. However, in the FARAWAY area, she becomes a villain, reflecting a complex change in her personality and relationship with Sunny.
- Hero: The eldest brother in the group. As the group leader, Hero can persuade others to support the group.
GAMEPLAY DETAILS
The gameplay in OMORI is built on a turn-based combat system. Players must consider whether to attack directly or use the special skills of each group member. Initially, characters are in a neutral state, but during combat they can experience emotional changes such as joy, sadness, or anger. These states change the character's attributes and profoundly affect the outcome of the battle. For example, when in a joyful state, the character will have higher speed and luck but a lower hit rate.
The game does not have a fixed quest list; instead, players are free to adventure in a limited world, facing puzzles, battling fears, and making crucial decisions that can change the course of the story. In addition, side quests enrich the experience, offering valuable rewards and unlocking new skills for the character. Thanks to the combination of an emotionally engaging combat system and a metaphorical exploration journey, Omori's gameplay challenges tactical abilities and evokes deep emotions, making every step in the game an unforgettable experience.
